Zoe Saldana, an American actress, and dancer, was born on June 19, 1978, in Passaic, New Jersey, U.S.
She made her screen debut following her performances with the theater group, Faces in an episode of Law & Order. In 2000, she began film career in the 2000 film, Center Stage where she played the role of a struggling ballet dancer.
She became famous after her role as Nyota Uhura in the film, Star Trek in 2009 and as James Cameron in the 2009 film Avatar. The film was widely popular all over the world and received widespread acclaim and became the highest grossing film of all time.
She also made her appearance in several films including Colombiana, Star Trek Beyond, Out of the Furnace, and Live by Night. From 2014, she has played the role of Gamora in the American superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy.

She was born in New Jersey and grown up in Jackson Heights, New York. She is the daughter of Aridio Saldana and Asalia Nazario. She has two sisters, named Mariel and Cisely. When she was nine years old, her father died in a car accident, and her mother subsequently moved to the Dominican Republic.
She began learning different types of dance, and she has described that her first passion was ballet. After her sophomore in high school, the family returned to New York. In Brooklyn, she started performing with the theater group titled Faces.

In 2002, she made her appearance in the comedy-drama film, Drumline with Nick Cannon. She played the role of Anamaria in 2003 film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. She made her appearance in several films in 2005 including Dirty Deeds, Ashton Kutcher, Guess who, and Constellation.
In 2009, she played in two high-profile roles, which made her more famous and raised her profile considerably. She played the role of Nyota Uhura in the film Star Trek.
